Mission
The Raquette Lake Free Library mission is to assemble, preserve, and provide free access to
quality services and materials that meet the needs of the community. Its mission is to uphold
the principles of intellectual freedom and the public’s right to know while providing access
to information in an open and non-judgmental environment. Its mission is to reflect all
points of view with free access to materials in a variety of formats for people of all ages.
History
Charter granted by the University of the State of New York in 1922. The building was erected in 1937. Raquette is French for snowshoe. There are 100 year round residents in Raquette Lake. Veni, Vidi, Mutuor…I came, I saw, I borrowed.
Awards
HAPLR – Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings: The ratings are based on federal data. Raquette Lake Library has been ranked in the top 10 for a total of 6 years. (2000, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009) There are nearly 1,000 libraries in the under 1,000 population category.
2011 Tip of the CAP Award to the Raquette Lake Free Library for Eighty-Nine years of dedicated cultural stewartship and service to Raquette Lake.
